My Grandpa, Captain John Charnock Wilson, served in the Queen's Royal Regiment during WWII. He joined around 1940 as a Second Lieutenant in the Royal Artillery (1st Battalion) and was later transferred to the 204/54th Anti-Tank Regiment, Royal Artillery.
He was deployed to Africa, Egypt, and Italy for much of his service. In 1944, he was sent to Italy as a Lieutenant. On 1 June 1945, he was wounded by shrapnel.
In November 1945, after promotion to Captain, he was deployed to Nairobi, Kenya.
