Stanley John Rose

My father served in the Blackwatch Regiment, 6th Battalion, in Italy including Monte Cassino. Wounded in battle at Rimini by a sniper bullet, back into action two weeks later. He then served in Crete and ended up in Belgium at the end of WW2. Transferred to the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders and stationed in Palestine 1946-47. I received his GSM for Palestine after he passed away in 2006, he died never knowing he had that medal. He was a brave soldier, a wonderful father, never to be forgotten

Benjamin Sydney Hosegood was the son of Sydney and Annie Mary (Burgum) Hosegood, of Woolwich, London, he enlisted in the Royal Army Service Corps and volunteered for airborne forces. Driver Hosegood successfully completed parachute training at RAF Ringway on course number 115 from 8 to 20 May 1944. To all who serve our country, thinking of those who won't be home for Christmas, and to all who will be missing a family member at Christmas because of their service.

My five uncles...

I grew up thinking my family had no direct military history and served myself for 28 years against that backdrop. My dad was a child during WWII and wasn't called up for National Service. I now know his older half brother Joe (20 years his senior) was a POW on the Burma-Siam railway. Another uncle (Jack) worked at Bletchley Park and another Jack was also in the Royal Corps of Signals. Uncle George was in the RAFP and Cliff was in the RA in Belgium, North Africa & Italy. All sergeants like me.

The brave soldiers who served their country with honer and pride. They do not deserve how they are being treated now

My late husband, a Royal Navy Falklands veteran, carried the memory of losing a comrade. Meeting his shipmates showed me the great personal cost of war. Frequent deployments and reduced respite strain morale, health, and family life. Many veterans now seek help—though some tragically do not survive. Charities like Combat Stress, active since WWI, and others continue to expand care and understanding. They deserve our ongoing support.

I didn't know Matthew personally but my husband was deployed with him in Kenya when he was taken too soon. My daughter was born in the day of his funeral so every year I remember him on her birthday. To all those brave soldiers who gave their lives for us, thank you. We will honour and remember them.

My dad had 3 brothers. His two older brothers, Raymond & Ralph, fought together in Burma. The were alongside each other when Ralph was shot in the head by a sniper. Raymond was badly affected. I never met Ralph as he died before I was born. My dad was in the RAF ground crew maintaining Spitfires & Lancaster bombers. All 4 brothers are now gone.

In memory of my father Ronnie of The Royal Corps of Signals attached firstly at the age of 19 to the 5th Battalion Staffordshire Regiment in Normandy and later in Holland and Germany with 4/7th Dragoon Guards. After the war he spent time in a military psychiatric hospital and was discharged in 1947 but suffered throughout his life, he was very well aided in later life by Combat Stress.

Private Aneurin Jenkins 2nd Battalion Green Howards (Yorkshire Regiment)

Killed in action in Burma (as it was then known) during World War Two on 13 March 1945, aged just 23 years old. A great-uncle I never had the opportunity to meet and also a beloved and much missed son, brother and uncle. Gave his life so others could live theirs. Never forgotten. 🌺
